We analysed the generated and historical data which resulted in the identification of different solutions, but also results in a baseline against we can measure savings.

Implement
As a first step we installed a Voltage Optimisation system that stabilises the voltage at the optimal voltage for the equipments design. Priorly it fluctuated around 242 Volts which was caused by both the grid instability and the existing solar panels. The patented system reduces harmonics and lowers the phase imbalance which is beneficial for most equipment.

Validate
After 6 month we verified 14.9% savings on the total electrical load of the facility based on the 15 minutes historical data.

Cold Chain

GGSI was invited to look for options for energy savings at a cold storage facility by its landlord, to help in upgrading the building energy rating.
Energy spend was €264.000, representing 221 kWh/m2 and on cold storage section 48 kWh/m2, significantly above best practice and problems with refrigeration plant were identified.
We identified specific solutions including voltage optimisation, onsite power generation and an innovative use of fork lifts.

Cheese Maturation

A leading cheese manufacturer in the UK produces more than 17,000 tonnes of cheese every year. Part of the process involves maturing at temperatures between 2 - 8 degree Celsius for up to two years
Two technologies were identified to reduce electrical consumption;
(1) using waste heat from CHP to provide chilled water.
(2) using a smart system to control the chillers for the remaining load - which uses machine learning to optimise production and minimise energy use.

Packaging Facility

Jabil has packaging and injection moulding facilities all over the world. The margins on packaging are low, thus potential energy savings play an important role in profitability.
Several specific improvements were identified including compressor management, frequency controlled motors, utility submeters, and innovative lighting upgrades.
The combination of upgrades and improvements were responsible for significant savings.
